DAP falls for Umno's 'Allah' trap

COMMENT The ‘Allah’ issue has been a classic, extremely effective Umno trap. When this issue reaches headlines, everybody loses, and nobody wins, except for Umno.

I’ve written about why this is so many times. To summarise quickly: this issue always polarises. ‘Polarisation’ here means that Malaysians who believe their religion is under siege (this applies to both sides) become increasingly convinced that they are correct.

They then behave as anyone who feels their religion is under siege can be expected to.

For ultra conservative or rigid Muslims, this means turning to Umno. They cannot fully turn to PAS, which is ironically more religious, because it has stated that it is all right for non-Muslims to use ‘Allah’ (in a way, they also are victim of a trap - but perhaps in a good way).

Many non-Muslims meanwhile, start to feel more and more like they are being oppressed by the majority. Some give up hope on Malaysia, and start looking for the exit sign. This of course, plays right into Umno’s hands - it means fewer people who will be here to vote for Pakatan Rakyat.

Ex-Muslims Denounce Islam - Faith Freedom International

Ex-Muslims Denounce Islam - Faith Freedom International

A Call To Muslims of the World
From
Faith Freedom International
Dear brothers and sisters in humanity. Dear Muslims

The tragic incident of September 11 has shocked the world. It is unthinkable how anyone could be so full of hate as to commit such heinous act and kill so many innocent people. We people of Muslim origin are as much shaken as the rest of the world and yet we find ourselves looked upon with suspicion and distrust by our neighbors and fellow citizens. We want to cry out and announce that we are not terrorists, that those who perpetrate such despicable act are murderers and are not part of us. But, in reality, because of our Muslim origin we just can not erase the  stigma of "Islamic Terrorists" from our identity!

Kristian Sabah bekerjasama halang diislamkan

"Kita mahu PM cakap sesuatu. Beliau bukan PM Melayu sahaja, tetapi PM semua orang," kata Pengerusi PAN, Esther Golingi kepada The Malaysian Insider.
- 23 Januari, 2014.

Catholicism vs Christianity

Catholicism is a denomination, hence a subset, of Christianity. All Catholics are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics. A Christian refers to a follower of Jesus Christwho may be a Catholic, Protestant, Gnostic, Mormon, Evangelical, Anglican or Orthodox, or follower of another branch of the religion.
A Catholic refers to a Christian who follows the Catholic religion as transmitted through the succession of Popes of Rome and the Vatican Empire across history. The Pope is the leader of the Catholic church. The Catholic Church is the largest of the Christian Churches - about 60% of Christians are Catholic.

Najib Razak: The Epitome Of Redundancy, Where is the defender of Wasatiyyah?

Nearly a week has passed since Jais raided the Bible Society of Malaysia, and we have heard nothing from Putrajaya that would soothe the hearts of the many Malaysians who must now be harbouring misgivings about our future as a nation of diverse cultures and creeds.
Prime Minister Najib did not even mention the raid in a recent speech to civil servants about maintaining “maturity and calmness” in handling inter-community disputes. Still, that is not as bad as his deputy’s virtual refusal to rein in Selangor Umno from its plan to demonstrate outside the state’s churches.
The suspicion is in fact growing stronger that Jais was acting not in the religious the interest of Muslims, but the political interest of Umno. The more vocal of the groups defending the raid and protesting against the Christian insistence on invoking God’s Arabic name are the same ones that have been supporting Umno against the opposition parties.
While they speak in the name of Islam, these groups are led by people not especially known to be exemplary Muslims. One of them, the government-funded Perkasa, has as its president someone who has more than once committed calumny with the innuendos that he directed at Anwar Ibrahim. And calumny is a grave sin in Islam.
Furthermore, while supporters of the Christians’ right to call on Allah have quoted from the Quran to back their position, we have yet to hear the other side do the same.
It does not take more than average intelligence to figure out Umno’s probable agenda. It’s the old divide-and-rule game again. Even the most blinkered Umno strategist must have seen—from the first Bersih rally to the recent Turun demonstration—that protests against the establishment have been multiracial in nature, with Malays making up a sizeable portion of the participants.
The problem is that the ruse might just work and Umno would gather more support from those Malays whose only sources of information are the government media and news outlets affiliated with Barisan Nasional. The outcome of the 13th general election showed us that BN propaganda did achieve results with rural Malays.
It’s a problem not because we grudge any increase of support for Umno, but because it would mean a deeper rural-urban divide of the nation and perhaps an abiding animosity between Muslim and Christian Malaysians.
But where is PAS in all this? Apart from a few voices assuring support for the Christians in their hour of strife, the party itself has not made an official stand on the issue, at least none that is clear.
It would indeed be a balm to ease the national suffering if President Hadi Awang would reiterate the unambiguous statement he made around the  time of the church burnings several years ago that PAS was with the Quran when it came to Allah being God for all. If he did that, he might just upstage Najib as the champion of wasatiyyah.

Azhar Mansor Christian

I am very much touched by the way Datuk Azhar Mansor wisely and winningly answered each and every questioned asked by the reporter during the press conference held at the PWTC to which some people made a daring but questionable conclusion that he has not leave the faith of his birth.

Well, everyone has the freedom to come out to certain conclusion based on their own understanding. We might have different understanding based on the same piece of information we read and i really want to know your say based on this same conference that I read. You can read the whole Q & A here, but I am going to extract the Q & A here for us to think about. (Please allow me my freedom of writing and giving opinion)

Holy Water Disebarkan Di Serata Selangor.

Father Sebastian Lim
