FLOOD: Heavy rain continues in Pahang, over 38,000 in relief centres.

KUANTAN: There is a slim chance that the flood situation in the state capital will improve anytime soon as heavy rain has continued since this morning.

After a promising weather on Friday, many were expecting the skies to be clear today but the rain has left some 32,000 evacuees to remain in 38 flood relief centres here.

A police spokesperson reminded those who had returned to their homes after the flood water receded on Friday to be on the alert, as the waters may rise again if the rain continued.

 

"Members of the public, especially those living in low-lying areas should be prepared to face any eventuality and follow the instructions from the authorities if evacuation orders are given," the spokesperson said.  

 

Heavy rains also pounded other districts, including Bentong and Jerantut this morning.

 

Meanwhile Bernama reported, the number of flood evacuees at the 116 relief centres in Pahang reached a total of 38,235 at 1.30pm. 

 

A spokesman for the flood operations room, state police contingent headquarters, said the people were advised to be alert in this weather condition.

 

"Kuantan still has the highest number of flood evacuees at 32,871 who are housed at 38 relief centres," he told Bernama, here, today.

 

In Rompin, 172 victims are housed at four relief centres, Pekan 3,439 (at 25 relief centres), Maran 183 (five), Jerantut 519 (10), Lipis 53 (four), Temerloh 884 (22) and Bera 114 (eight).

 

Meanwhile, several main roads are still closed to traffic after being inundated by more than a metre high flood waters. Among the affected stretches are Km28 Jalan Sungai Lembing-Kuantan, Km72 Jalan Kuantan-Segamat and Km14 Jalan Temerloh-Bahau.

Namun begitu kami amat-amat prihatin terhadap mereka yang sanggup menggunakan kesusahan rakyat untuk kepentingan politik mereka. Ini bisa mengundang kerosakkan terhadap dunia karena apabila pembohongan yang berlaku dan orang yang miskin menjadi mangsa, sedangkan mangsa banjir telah pun dibantu. 

Kami berharap YB Puan Hajjah Fuziah Salleh untuk kembali ke kawasan beliau dan membantu penduduk. Jangan pandai bercakap sahaja di Parlimen tapi orang kawasan Kuantan pun dia tidak jenguk.
